Data centers need to run continuously: reliable power, around the clock. Meeting that with newly built gas has become slower than it used to be: turbines are backlogged for years, with deliveries pushing beyond 2030.
A wind-anchored system is often both faster to build and cleaner to run. Wind and solar together can carry roughly 60–80% of a large load in many regions, and because Apex has gigawatts of it already developed and ready to build, power can arrive years sooner. With most of the load already carried by clean generation, the firming that fills the gap—storage and a limited amount of dispatchable generation—stays smaller, cheaper, and faster to procure.
The result is 24/7 firm power, delivered faster—and cleaner as a consequence, not a compromise. The choice isn’t between reliability and clean energy. It’s about designing the right system.
Flagship Project: Glass Mountain Energy
In West Texas, Glass Mountain shows the Apex approach in practice: one of the strongest combined wind and solar resources in the country, paired with a transmission-advantaged location where planned 765 kV upgrades run directly through the site. This combination makes a power solution deliverable rather than aspirational.
Glass Mountain, a 2.4 GW near-term opportunity, is the anchor of a broader Texas portfolio representing a 14 GW longer-term development opportunity—part of a national pipeline of large-load sites Apex is advancing across multiple markets. Apex has already proven elements of this model in ERCOT, including one of the largest planned private-use networks with renewable energy.
