Apex Surpasses 5 GW Milestone of Commercialized Clean Energy Projects

Innovative and Customized Deal Structures Drive Approximately $7 Billion in Utility-Scale Wind and Solar Energy Investment

Charlottesville, VA – September 17, 2019 – A decade after its founding, Apex Clean Energy is celebrating a milestone that signifies its place among the leaders of the utility-scale clean energy industry.

Via the commercialization of Aviator Wind—set to become the largest-ever single-site, single-phase wind farm in the United States at 525 MW—Apex surpassed the milestone of commercializing more than 5 GW of clean energy projects. Once all currently commercialized projects complete construction, this milestone will represent five percent of all wind projects operating across the United States, as the nation approaches 100 GW of clean, cost-competitive wind energy generation.

Apex has invested in world-class clean energy resources—ideal locations for future wind, solar, and storage facilities—across more than two dozen states, resulting in a portfolio that is at the forefront of the industry in terms of both scale and quality, well-positioned for growth in the years ahead with over 70 projects that could support 17 GW of capacity and $20 billion of investment.

“Apex is poised to have its most successful year to date,” said Mark Goodwin, Apex president and CEO. “I’ve never been more enthusiastic about the Apex team’s accomplishments or more optimistic as I look to our role in propelling the industry forward in 2020 and beyond.”

Apex, an independent renewable energy solutions provider, was founded in 2009 by a group of industry veterans and has grown into a team of more than 200 renewable energy experts executing at every phase of project realization, from origination and financing to construction and long-term operations.  Apex has $2 billion of operating assets under management on behalf of utility, financial, and corporate owners.

Over the past decade, Apex has created $7 billion worth of clean energy investment and has driven the market with precedent-setting innovations, including one of the first proxy revenue swap financing arrangements, the Department of Defense’s first and largest hybrid renewable energy contract, the largest combined offtake serving corporate buyers with a single project, and other unique and award-winning power purchase and financial transactions. The American Wind Energy Association has also recognized Apex as the industry leader in project site safety in both 2018 and 2019.
