Apex Clean Energy Ranked First in U.S. Wind Capacity Additions in 2015

Charlottesville, VA – February 19, 2016 – Apex Clean Energy was the market leader for new wind energy capacity additions in the United States in 2015. The company installed 1,042 megawatts (MW) of wind facilities, according to data from the American Wind Energy Association’s fourth quarter 2015 report.

“We’ve been fortunate to have great landowners, communities, suppliers, and investors working with us to get these facilities built. They deserve the credit along with our team, whose dedication and sustained efforts are essential to bringing these facilities online,” said Mark Goodwin, president and COO of Apex.

The Apex capacity additions represent 12% of the 8.6 gigawatts completed nationwide in 2015 and comprised the following five projects:

  • Balko Wind (300 MW in Oklahoma)
  • Cameron Wind (165 MW in Texas)
  • Hoopeston Wind (98 MW in Illinois)
  • Kay Wind (299 MW in Oklahoma)
  • Kingfisher Wind (180 MW in Oklahoma)

“This is a dynamic market. Our customers last year included new entrants from the utility, corporate, and financial sectors. They see compelling economics and value the ability to hedge energy inflation and mitigate carbon risk,” added Apex CFO Jim Trousdale. “It’s not surprising the wind energy industry led the power sector last year, adding more capacity than any other energy source.”

“The energy markets are changing. The low cost of clean energy is driving the rapid growth in our industry. The technology is proven, financial returns are attractive, and capital is available. Our strategy has been to invest in our team and the energy resources, bring new capacity online, and provide long-term operations and asset management services,” said Sandy Reisky, CEO of Apex. “With the addition of these wind farms, Apex has $1.7 billion of assets under management.”
