An Inclusive Workforce

Building a workplace where people belong—and where the next generation can thrive

Mission

Our people drive everything we do. We build teams and community to accelerate the clean energy transition—and we do that work with respect and purpose, creating meaningful impact beyond the workplace.

Apex recognizes that different perspectives and experiences strengthen our decisions and solutions. We’re committed to continuous improvement in how we hire, develop, and support our people—and we’re accountable for that work both internally and in how we engage with our industry.

Closing the gaps

Over the past several years, Apex has increased its standards and accountability across all levels of our business. We do this through community engagement and workplace initiatives—including a professional mentorship program, celebrations that honor the contributions of different groups, and a free online Clean Energy Crash Course for students—creating a workplace where people can thrive.

Community Initiatives

The Apex Academy

Apex Academy

The Apex Clean Energy Academy is a free, experiential one-week summer course that introduces high school students to renewable energy. Students work with GIS software, learn how to plan a renewable energy project, and make connections with Apex department leads and industry experts.

Investing in Future Leaders

Apex partners with organizations dedicated to expanding opportunity in higher education and leadership development to help support the next generation of leaders entering the energy industry.

Key partnerships include:

  • Ron Brown Scholar Program: helping exceptional young African American leaders access higher education and pursue careers that make an impact
  • Jorge Mas Canosa Freedom Foundation: supporting leadership development and educational opportunity for emerging Hispanic leaders
  • Veteran career transition programs: supporting veterans transitioning to civilian careers through organizations such as Hiring our Heroes and Project Vanguard, bringing leadership, operational expertise, and mission focus to the clean energy industry

School Tours

The Apex team has designed an in-person, customized experience for school groups at our corporate headquarters in downtown Charlottesville, the largest mass timber building on the East Coast.

During the tour, students learn about the sustainable aspects of Apex Plaza; hear from a member of the team responsible for building our renewable energy facilities; visit our Remote Operations Control Center, which manages our operating projects in real time; and more.

Community impact

In 2022, Apex pledged to contribute $1 million over four years to Charlottesville’s Affordable Housing Opportunity Fund. The fund is working hand in hand with the Charlottesville Redevelopment and Housing Authority (CRHA), the residents of CRHA properties, and the Public Housing Association of Residents to provide modern and safe homes that include supportive services such as early childhood development centers, health clinics, and training and employment opportunities.
