Apex Clean Energy Acquires Development Assets from Duke Energy

Charlottesville, VA – January 15, 2014 – Apex Clean Energy has acquired 11 projects from Duke Energy Renewables. These assets have the potential to support approximately 1.6 GW of wind energy capacity.

“We are very pleased to have the opportunity to add these high-quality projects to our pipeline,” said Apex president Mark Goodwin. “This acquisition is a good strategic fit for Apex. Over the course of the past five years, we have been pursuing a very deliberate growth strategy to build a development team with broad capabilities to commercialize our national portfolio of wind energy resources. These assets will leverage the expertise of our team and increase the geographic diversity of our portfolio.”

“Finding a committed and proven counterparty such as Apex to continue the development of these quality projects from our extensive wind energy pipeline allows the landowners, communities and other stakeholders to realize the benefits of these projects, ” said Greg Wolf, president of Duke Energy Renewables. “This sale allows us to focus our development efforts on other wind and solar projects as we continue to grow Duke Energy’s renewables portfolio.”
