Helping a Sovereign Culture Thrive

Apex partners with the Sioux Nation to harness the wind.

“In order to be sovereign, we have to have an economic base. Our dream is that this will bring income to our people where we can be more self-sufficient.” — Faith Spotted Eagle, Ihanktonwan Treaty Committee Chair and Oceti Sakowin Power Authority Council of Elders Member

The winds that blow across millions of acres of tribal land in South Dakota are some of the strongest in the country. Six tribes of the Sioux Nation united to form the Oceti Sakowin Power Authority (OSPA) with hopes of harnessing that wind to generate clean energy and a brighter, more independent future.

The project could encompass several facilities across the land of numerous reservations. The wind farms will contribute millions of dollars to the tribes and create jobs on the reservations, preserving the health, sovereignty, and culture of the Sioux Nation for years to come.

Apex Clean Energy has partnered with OSPA to develop the project, which aligns closely with our core values: sustainability, entrepreneurship, integrity, professionalism, and safety. We believe in sharing our expertise and expanding opportunities for others to further the transition to a better, more sustainable future.
