Apex Clean Energy Wins Multiple Award Task Order Contract from U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

Charlottesville, VA – September 3, 2013 – Apex Clean Energy, LLC has been selected to compete for contracts to provide renewable energy to U.S. Army and other Department of Defense facilities. The largest single consumer of energy in the world, the Department of Defense is mandated to meet at least 25% of its facilities’ energy needs with renewable energy by 2025.

Apex was one of the few companies the Army deemed qualified to develop, finance, design, build, and own renewable energy plants that will power its facilities in a clean and reliable manner. The application process was designed to streamline large-scale military procurement to a small group of prequalified companies.

“In creating this contract vehicle and selecting a small number of qualified vendors, the Army and the Department of Defense have taken a significant step towards their renewable energy goals,” said Dave Belote, Vice President of Federal Business for Apex. “Over the last year, Apex has worked with each of the Services to find cost-effective ways to deliver sustainable, secure, mission-compatible energy. The Apex team is one of the few in the industry which combines decades of experience in wind and solar project development, finance, and specific military renewable energy projects.”

In total, the Department of Defense has committed to invest over $7 billion to deploy three gigawatts of renewable energy on Army, Navy and Air Force installations by 2025, enough to power 583,000 homes.

“Apex looks forward to working with our military to produce safe, reliable energy on U.S. soil,” said Mark Goodwin, Apex President. “Apex and the military are united in our steadfast commitment to strengthen our national security and energy independence through the development of clean, domestic energy projects.”
